چکیده

Objectives: The purposes of this study were to: 1) describe sense of effort (SOE) associated with speech, oral air pressure (Po), articulatory contact pressure (ACP), and subneoglottal pressure (Psub) in tracheoesophageal (TE) speech, and 2) evaluate the relationships between these measures. The intent was to inform about articulatory alterations in TE speech with a future goal of guiding therapeutic interventions that serve to balance the physical demands of producing intelligible TE speech with the perceived work of generating the

Syllable as a synchronization mechanism that makes human speech possible

Speech is a communication system that transmits information by using aerodynamics of articulatory movements to generate sequences of alternating sounds. For this system to work, the articulators need to shift their state frequently and rapidly in order to encode as much information as possible in a given period of time, and the many articulators involved need to be coordinated so as to make the...

Controlling changes in vocal tract resistance.

There is some evidence that speech aerodynamics follows the rules of a regulating system. The purpose of the present study was to assess how the speech system manages perturbations that produce "errors" within the system. Three experimental approaches were used to evaluate the physiological responses to an imposed change in airway resistance. The first involved subjects with varying degrees of ...

Articulatory Effort in Different Speaking Rates

Articulatory effort has been widely discussed under different speech production models. A good way to explore this issue is to test the hypothesis that speakers naturally desire to minimize articulatory effort during fast speech rates, such as undershoot of the target sound. This study demonstrates articulatory effort at different speaking rates by examining articulatory trajectory using the El...

Comprehensive Investigating on the Aerodynamic Influences of the Wheel Contact Patch

Computational fluid dynamics is implemented to investigate the influence of the wheel contact patch on the global car aerodynamics. Two main aspects of the problem are the contact step and patch shape. Three important parameters: step height, cut angle, and tire tread shape are taken into consideration. For validations of the numerical results, the experimental data are also considered. The obt...

Airflow and pressure characteristics of three different tracheostoma valves.

Tracheoesophageal speakers can achieve speech without digital occlusion by using a tracheostoma valve. Laryngectomized patients who are successful with this device can regain considerable freedom. However, little is known about which valve suits the patient best. Valve aerodynamics may give a guideline for its use. Three major tracheostoma valves, each divided into four subtypes, were repeatedl...
